on wednesday, we rented ourselves a little room at a place called Do Re Mi in koreatown and decided to be rock stars. and somehow some of it got caught on video. i don’t know how this happened.
and if anyone wants to know why i’m not on this, there are 2 reasons:
1. someone has to shoot the video, cause i don’t see YOU doing it.
2. i shot my vocal chords within 10 minutes. a little thing i like to call “18 and life”
ok,
so,
one of the things i really wanted to do when i was in NY a few weeks ago was play music. i dont’ get much chance to play out here, for a few various reasons, most of them job related. so i booked some time at an old studio space in NY and rented a guitar, and brought mike, matt, and neil along to make some music. we played for 3 hours, and the results of it can be seen here:

sorry i don’t have one big zip file for all of these, i can put one up later tonight, but for now you’ll have to settle for listening and downloading one at a time…
some of these are pretty good, track 8 is the only one with lyrics, and we’re switching instruments around, though the basic lineup is:
Neil: Drums
Matt: Bass
Michael: Guitar, vocals on track 8
Me: Guitar
on 2 tracks i’m playing drums and neil is on keyboards, i think michael is on drums for one song and i’m playing bass on the last track that gets cut off, matt is on keys for that…
UPDATE: the zip file is on the server, here
so, as some of you may or may not remember, there was an attempt last year at throwing me a surprise going away party when i left New York. from what i heard, most of my friends from various walks of life got together, argued a bunch about what the best way to throw me a party was, and then eventually settled on going to dinner on thursday and drinks.
and then i went out to SF to look for apartments and my once and future roommate micah ruined it by asking me how it was a good week before it happened. this was of course not his fault, because he wasn’t going to the party so he only looked at the email once.
but, because i rule (see title), i decided that i would throw HIM a surprise going away party because he’s going back to NY, and i wouldnt’ even give alex and karen the chance to ruin it by telling them about it. though i will admit that the idea occurred to me and i giggled about it for a few hours at work one day.
so with Ali and Tricia’s (and everyone else’s) help, we did this last thursday. All these photos are Aubreys, but i’m stealing them anyways:
you can see the rest of the photos on Aubs flickr set
remember when Neil was here a few weeks ago? you don’t? well, then clearly you’re not paying enough attention.
anyways, we spent our sunday recording a song, which if you’re keeping track will be the 3rd track on my “write an album in 07″ album.
Neil: Keyboards, Drums
Me: Guitar, Bass, Keyboards
Neil, start practicing

so, because it’s 2000, i went to the Paul Oakenfold show last wednesday. a few notable things about the show:
1. it was on a wednesday night
2. it started at 9PM but no one showed up till 11.
3. you had to literally slide down a tunnel to get to the bar
4. the place was packed
5. the restrooms weren’t near each other, so i went towards what looked like both restrooms and ended up being only the ladies room. then i had to work my way back to the other side of the bar. well planned.
other than that the show was fun. seriously, it was. I love that he’s still using the same synth keyboard sound he used back in tranceport. it’s nice to see that someone sticks to their principles.
so, in case you missed my new year’s resolutions, i decided that i would write enough material this year for 1 album. I decided to allow my december 06 song into the mix, but here’s my first offering from 07:
it’s not perfect, i know that there’s something that needs to happen in the 2nd verse/chorus that isn’t there yet, either a different drum part, or a harmony vocal or something. Neil, this might be one i need your talents on when you get out here. but enjoy!
A special Xmas/Holiday gift for those of you who read Manlio Rules. Here is the first song that i’ve recorded over a year.
Hope you like it.
