bah. i keep trying to write a funny/charming post about my old television, and it keeps coming out stupid (shockingly). i had a great weekend, slept through a party, went to napa, saw Liz, good times. I’ve got oodles of people coming to visit over the next month, and i’m going to go see Paul Oakenfold tomorrow night, because it’s apparently the year 2000.
long story short: i have an old TV. I need a new one, but i don’t want to spend the money on a new TV when i have a perfectly good old one. and regardless i’m not buying one until i find out if i’m going to buy an apt in april. yes, i’m thinking about buying an apartment in april. anyone have any advice on how the fuck i’m going to start that process?
yeah, so i had to come into the office today. i know i know, i shouldn’t complain because pretty much every normal person has to come into the office on friday. so my friday WFH iPod love is now my friday WFW iTunes love. and this week’s song:
Cherry Lips - Archie Bronson Quartet
of course, this reminds me of Eric and Liz’s wedding, cause we walked around for 4 days with Michael randomly singing: “your fat cherry lips”. now that’s a memory for you
this weekend = ted’s party, napa, softball meeting.
oh, speaking of softball, if i started a team would anyone play? right now i’ve got a tenative “yes” from 2 people. speak up folks!
so, in case you missed my new year’s resolutions, i decided that i would write enough material this year for 1 album. I decided to allow my december 06 song into the mix, but here’s my first offering from 07:
sacramento.mp3
it’s not perfect, i know that there’s something that needs to happen in the 2nd verse/chorus that isn’t there yet, either a different drum part, or a harmony vocal or something. Neil, this might be one i need your talents on when you get out here. but enjoy!
Another Planet, by the Notwist
so, here’s a question. how do you pronounce Notwist? i pronounce it “No-twist”. some people pronounce it “Not-wist”. anyone have a definitive answer?
but here we go anyways. as always, numbers only represent a loose ordering of my thoughts, not any sort of hierarchy of importance in any way.
1. I would like to declare Lyandra’s (and Laura and Kate’s, though i don’t have as much evidence) weekend trip to SF a smashing success. I would also like to claim that we didn’t get too drunk on thursday and then say a lot of things we regretted the next day. all i can claim in defense is that i should keep my mouth shut, at least after a few drinks.
1a. Alembic? great drinks!
2. of COURSE you would guess that my first winter in tahoe is accompanied by the worst snowfall the area has seen in years. Sunday was sort of ok, and monday was like being back in VT, on icy, hard packed, branch exposed surfaces. I took one bad fall on monday and my ribs still hurt. awesome. i have a photo of the view from the house, i will post it when i remember to bring my camera to work.
Update:
3. NE: 24, SD: 21. Dear Chargers. you were definitely the more talented team. you out ran, out pushed, and generally out played New England. But you made just enough bonehead plays and coaching decisions to lose the game. Hey, this stuff will happen. Maybe you should stop whining about “class” and “celebrations” and go watch the game tape of your Punt returner fumbling a punt, and the personal fouls that gave us 2nd and 3rd chances when we should have been done. just sayin.
gah. or you can just listen to this guy (audio NSFW). I love being from boston, but i understand why most people hate us when it comes to sports.
4. if you were ever wondering which songs had a lot of cowbell, this list will tell you. (props to Jocelyn for this).
hi sports fans. so, here’s what’s been going on in my life since the start of the month.
1. Snowboarding. i went up to our cabin for the first time last weekend. the house is great, the snowboarding is great, i will be going back up there this weekend to get a few days in, though the conditions aren’t awesome, they’re much better than what i’m used to back east. my goal remains to get 25 days up this season. right now i’m at 2, but it still seems like it’s achievable. i hope. i might be making that up.
2. CES. i spent sunday-wednesday of this week at the Consumer Electronics Show, doing demo’s for the products that i built last year, and generally wandering around, gawking at huge tv’s. my main takeaway from CES is that everyone seems to be hawking HD camcorders, to let more of us make video blogs. maybe i’ll start doing a video blog on manlio rules, though i think i would lose almost 100% of the eloquence y’all have come to expect from me. but at least i could always have def leppard playing in the background.
3. Football. the pats are in the playoffs! go playoffs! i’m nervous about the SD game this sunday, but if anyone can stop LDT, it’s the Pats. I hope.
4. Trivia. Trivia nights have been pretty much my only social outlet since the start of the year. we keep winning, so that’s good. last week we somehow rolled with like 12 people. Lyandra and Amy were there as well, so my SF friends got to meet some of my NY friends, and vice versa.
and that’s pretty much it. seems awfully boring. i’ve got some shots of trivia 2 weeks ago that you can peruse, if you so desire. i’ll make sure to take ski cabin shots this weekend so everyone can drool at the awesomeness of wintering in Tahoe. wintering!
sigh. i hate making New Year’s resolutions. but i did it anyway. here they are:
1. Drop 16lbs to get to 170
2. Record an album, or write enough material for a full length album. to make it easier, i’m going to allow the song i wrote and uploaded for Xmas to be included.
3. Smoke less. I’m still floating around about a pack every week or so. i’d love to cut that in half, or better. i didn’t smoke for about a third of 06, so i think this should be achievable.
4. Play a gig on drums. this might be harder, but it woudl be great to reach the skill level and find the opportunity to play drums live.
some of my random stats and notes from 06
cross country flights: 14
apartments: 2
full time jobs: 3
money spent on fantasy sports: 591
money won on fantasy sports: 1270
hours spent on fantasy sports: ~200

days on snow: 3 (hoping to really improve this one)
days on the beach: 1 (that’s about right)
baseball games attended: 6
red sox games attended: 2

no wonder i’m exhasuted.
Penn station around christmas time is a terrible way to arrive in New York City, especially when you’ve got lots of luggage, and i did.

on the plus side, there were plenty of cabs (are you listening San Francisco? cabs are useful! i hope you asked santa for some).

the first piece of advice i will offer you guys out there is to take 93 to 95 from Logan to get to Lexington. if you take 90, it will result in a $100 cab ride, even with no traffic. and so began my xmas vacation, very early last saturday.
